What I did after getting the machine:
- Update to Yosemite
- Get free suite from Apple (Pages, Keynote, Numbers. GarageBand and/or iMovie?)
- ...
- Profit. (Enjoy Continuity and all.)
Anyway, the apps in the "Other" section are mostly about working with and managing your machine. For example, Boot Camp Assistant will help with setting up a Windows partition on your drive, or Activity Monitor will show you how apps are using your memory.
